Our client is seeking an Applications Engineer to support its growing 5G high frequency polymer business. You’ll split your time between the company’s Woburn, MA facility and a manufacturing partner based in Londonderry, NH. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, results-driven, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
Responsibilities of the Applications Engineer, 5G Polymers
- Directly interface with key customers and provide effective applications support and technical service; this includes understanding customer Critical to Quality (CTQ) product requirements and specifications, being well versed in test methods, and optimizing downstream processes to deliver maximum product performance and attributes
- Conduct application and product evaluations to qualify low dielectric film in customers’ copper clad lamination processes, which will be designed and qualified in high frequency 5g flex and rigid printed circuit board applications
- Provide technical support to customers and bridge the gap between R&D, Commercial, and Manufacturing
- Provide data management and analytics for RCA (Root Cause Analysis) and FMEA (Failure Mode & Effects Analysis)
- Own technical support deliverables and ensure customer responsiveness on product applications and technical support
- Work with customers to understand specifications and technical requirements; collaborate with product development to translate customer requirements into designs
- Test and characterize mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties of materials and extruded components
- Travel as required (30%)
- Perform related tasks as assigned
Qualifications of the Applications Engineer, 5G Polymers
- BS in Engineering or related field, or equivalent
- 3+ years of relevant experience in a technical, laboratory, or manufacturing environment
- Experience with low dielectric film properties (such as Dk, Df), copper lamination, printed circuit fabrication processes, and how they are interrelated
- Knowledge of PCB and copper clad lamination industry test methods and properties for high frequency applications
- Strong data analysis and critical thinking skills plus experience with Minitab, JMP, or similar data analysis tool
- Must have experience with film, electronic materials, and associated testing
- Excellent communication, customer service, and relationship building skills
- Highly detailed oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Inquisitive, curious, and willing to learn new manufacturing processes and testing protocols
- Solid mechanical aptitude, strong math skills, and working knowledge of computer software, data analysis, and graphical presentation
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret industry test methods
