Our client is seeking a Controls Engineer to join the team at their Portsmouth, NH facility. This versatile role offers the opportunity to wear many hats as you work collaboratively to design products, automation systems, robotics, and controls systems used in the manufacturing industry. This is an excellent direct hire position in a small, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities of the Controls Engineer

  • Contribute to specification and design of automation systems
  • Develop code and requirements, safety specifications and selection, testing, installation, training, and startup assistance
  • Serve as project automation technical lead, participating in customer meetings and providing input to engineering proposals, device selection, and schedule estimates as needed
  • May provide mentorship and guidance for junior engineers
  • Participate in all aspects of controls automation, e.g., drafting electrical schematics panel and component specification/layout, wiring, programming, troubleshooting, etc.
  • Develop software solutions by studying information needs, conferring with customers and senior staff, and studying system flow and work processes
  • Document and demonstrate solutions via flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments, and clear code
  • Provide a communication link to Senior Engineering, Marketing/Sales, and Field Service departments concerning customers and commercial equipment
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing publications, and participating in professional societies
  • Adhere to all workplace safety laws, regulations, standards, and practices

Qualifications of the Controls Engineer

  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in manufacturing or other technical field working on automated systems
  • Formal training and/or certification in any programming language (VB, C, C#)
  • Experience with UI design, XAML, and MVVM design pattern a plus
  • Experience with machine vision systems to include specifying camera, lenses, lighting solutions, and vision tool programming
  • Ability to troubleshoot and maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems and components
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks or equivalent 3D design software
  • Team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Adept in problem solving and analytical reasoning
