Responsibilities of the Machinist/Manual Lathe Operator

  • Perform machining operations such as turning, milling, and drilling to very close tolerances on a wide variety of materials, on CNC mills and Manual Lathes
  • Interpret complex engineering drawings and follow written and verbal instructions
  • Make all required mathematical calculations without assistance
  • Use precision measuring instruments to ensure that parts produced meet quality standards
  • Perform duties during machine cycle time to maximize productivity, e.g., inspect parts, maintain tooling, debur parts, stamp part numbers, or general housekeeping
  • Make difficult set-ups consisting of indicating, leveling, clamping, and blocking
  • Determine pick-up points, set stops, and controls, and check tooling
  • Select correct cutting tools, feeds, and speeds consistent with proper machining practices
  • Replace tooling and make machine adjustments to maintain product quality standards
  • Help train and provide guidance to lesser-experienced machinists in all aspects of their duties
  • Contribute to efforts to meet daily goals in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, and Productivity
  • Drive and support efforts to maintain good housekeeping practices in both the assigned group and throughout the facility
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications of the Machinist/Manual Lathe Operator

  • Experience working with a team in a diverse manufacturing environment; 3 years of experience preferred but will consider other applicants
  • Must be able to read, evaluate, and respond to product specifications, blueprints, and drawings
  • Must have strong basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide)
  • Must be familiar and comfortable with industrial machinery
  • Ability to solve complex daily technical problems with little assistance
  • Must have strong general mechanical skills
  • Familiarity with the use of micrometers, snap gauges, or other tools for dimensional evaluation
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to walk and stand throughout an eight-hour shift
  • Must be able to consistently lift 25 lbs. from floor or table position to chest height using proper lifting technique
  • Must demonstrate good hand/eye coordination and good manual dexterity

Hours for the Machinist/Manual Lathe Operator are first shift, Monday through Friday, from 6:30am-3:00pm. Pay depends on experience, ranging up to $25/hour. Apply now!
