Manufacturing Maintenance Technician

Responsibilities of the Manufacturing Maintenance Technician

  • Carefully read and interpret equipment manuals to operate and maintain equipment properly
  • Inspect newly acquired equipment upon arrival, checking that every part is in working order and meets industry standards before factory use
  • Read work orders to confirm the production task is within the capacity of the factory’s equipment per manufacturer guidelines; make provision for alternate equipment to handle big production tasks to prevent wearing out equipment
  • Strictly abide by safety regulations during manufacturing activities, keeping equipment maintained to avoid mechanical hazards
  • Teach workers how to operate equipment properly to avoid accidents
  • Enroll for continuous training and education on technical maintenance practices to remain updated with the latest maintenance techniques and keep equipment in the best possible conditions
  • Supervise the purchase of new equipment, utilizing your knowledge of machine operation in choosing good quality machines for purchase; test machines to determine their durability and return low-performing machines in exchange for better ones when necessary
  • Carry out routine servicing of equipment to prevent breakdowns and malfunctions that could thwart production activities
  • Keep record of maintenance activities to track the lifespan of equipment and replace equipment that breaks down too frequently
  • Troubleshoot equipment to determine specific malfunctioning issues and tackle them accordingly
  • Communicate with management or clients to inform them about equipment faults and best maintenance techniques to implement for maximum performance
  • Prioritize daily work orders according to their level of importance

Qualifications of the Manufacturing Maintenance Technician

  • Knowledge of the mechanical maintenance process
  • Strong critical thinking skills to troubleshoot and detect malfunctioning
  • Disciplined to execute tasks without procrastination
  • Strong time management skills to work at a good pace
  • Ability to use basic tools
  • Knowledge of safety precautions
  • Ability to work well with coworkers
