Responsibilities of the Tool and Die Maintenance Technician

• Maintain, repair, and troubleshoot progressive and transfer dies to ensure optimal performance, minimal downtime, and consistent product quality
• Disassemble dies, identify wear or damage, replace components, and reassemble tools to meet original specifications
• Work closely with press operators, engineers, and toolmakers to diagnose and resolve tooling and die issues that arise during production
• Perform preventive maintenance, including sharpening, polishing, and adjusting die components to extend tool life
• Recommend improvements to enhance durability, efficiency, and part quality
• Maintain documentation
• Perform additional tasks as required  

Qualifications of the Tool and Die Maintenance Technician

• 5-10 years of experience in tool and die maintenance in a high-volume metal stamping environment
• Technical diploma, apprenticeship, or equivalent hands-on training in tool and die technology or a related field is preferred
• Strong knowledge of progressive die construction, metal stamping processes, and press operations
• Experience using precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, and gauges) and a strong understanding of tolerances and fit
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, tooling drawings, and specifications
• Excellent mechanical aptitude, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently as well as cross-functionally
• Experience with welding, grinding, milling, and other tool repair techniques is strongly preferred
