Amy was diligently searching for new job opportunities well before she and her partner returned to New England after 6 years in Colorado. She found an intriguing role in Concord, NH, where she planned to settle, but the employer needed a candidate in place before Amy’s move. That position was listed by Leddy Group. Senior Staffing Manager Alie Wood advised Amy that many companies were looking for a quick turnaround on recruiting and hiring, so she recommended that she and Amy connect once Amy was in New Hampshire.
“Alie was really helpful,” shares Amy. “I had never worked with any sort of third party for getting a job, so I wasn’t quite sure how it would work, but she let me know all of the steps.” Alie learned that Amy was looking for a part-time position at a nonprofit. Fortuitously, one had just become available that seemed like a perfect fit: a development support role at Red River Theatres, an independent, nonprofit art house cinema in the heart of downtown Concord, New Hampshire. Alie shares, “I was impressed with Amy’s warmth and professionalism right off the bat. I knew with her skillset that she would get scooped up quickly when she made the official move to New Hampshire. After I spoke with Red River Theatres, I couldn’t wait to call Amy and make the connection.” Amy says, “I was super excited because it seemed way easier than it should have been! I think it was literally the first position that Alie presented me with, and I was immediately interested.” Amy has a film studies background, so the fact that the position was at an arts nonprofit – better yet, a movie theater – thrilled her.
Amy and Red River’s Executive Director Angie and Development Manager Sarah met for a virtual interview. “Right away I felt like these were people that I definitely wanted to work with,” says Amy. “We got along great, and it seemed that they were just as excited to meet with me and hear about my background as I was to meet them and learn about the position and Red River’s history in the community.” Amy had over 15 years of administrative experience in nonprofits and familiarity with utilizing and maintaining donor databases, making her an excellent candidate for Red River’s team. She was offered the role in January 2023. The quick turnaround amazed her: “I had a call with Alie on January 10, and I started at Red River on January 18. We had just gotten into our apartment on January 6, so it was very speedy!”
Right away, Amy settled in to her new development support position at Red River Theatres. She maintains their database, enters donations and membership payments, mails acknowledgement letters, and communicates regularly with members and donors. Amy also supports the box office staff, who solicit memberships and donations from patrons each day. She says, “The job is great! It’s what I like to do.” Red River was pleased with Amy’s performance as well, and she was officially hired by the company in April!
Amy shares that her previous role in Colorado was very stressful because there wasn’t a team in place, so she had to handle almost all office management and development activities by herself. At Red River, however, she says, “This role is more focused and there are more people working here, who are very open to working together and supporting each other.” She enjoys camaraderie with her coworkers because everyone operates with the mindset of “‘How can I help, and what can we do to get things done,’ rather than, ‘No, that’s not my job.’ It makes for a very good work environment.”
Red River Theatres offers a diverse array of programming on their three screens, from first-run independent films to cult classics to popular films. When showing last summer’s hits, Barbie and Oppenheimer, as a double feature, Red River differentiated itself to attract viewers by offering special perks like drag performances, a photo booth in the lobby, and on-theme beverages in their café. Amy says, “I just love working for a nonprofit because I love knowing that what I am doing is doing some good in some way for somebody. I especially love film and being able to do work to support a movie theater, because I think the arts are important. It’s so human to go watch a movie.”
Alie says, “Amy has continued to bring tremendous value to the Red River Theatres team and I’m excited to hear about all of her future success.” Amy is so grateful that Alie and Leddy Group helped her find such a rewarding job so quickly and easily. She says, “My experience with Alie was really great. It could not have been easier!”
